NOTE 1 – A system of units can be coherent only with respect to a system of quantities and the adopted base units.
NOTE 2 – For a coherent system of units, numerical value equations have the same form, including numerical factors, as the corresponding quantity equations.
NOTE 3 – An example of coherent system of units is the set of coherent SI units with the relations between them.

NOTE 1 – In each coherent system of units, there is only one base unit for each base quantity. In the SI for example, the metre is the base unit of length. The centimetre and the kilometre are also units of length, but they are not base units in the SI. However, in the CGS systems, the centimetre is the base unit of length.
NOTE 2 – A base unit may also serve for a derived quantity of the same dimension. For example, rainfall, when defined as volume per area (areic volume), has the metre as a coherent derived unit in the SI. The ampere, base unit of electric current, is also the coherent derived unit of scalar magnetic potential.
NOTE 3 – For the quantity “number of entities”, the number one, symbol 1, can be regarded as a base unit in any system of units.

NOTE 1 – Some derived units in the International System of Units (SI) have special names, e.g. hertz for frequency and joule for energy, but others have compound names, e.g. metre per second for speed. Compounds including units with special names are also used, e.g. volt per metre for the electric field strength, and newton metre for torque. See in particular ISO 31 and ISO/IEC 80000.
NOTE 2 – Derived units can also be expressed by using multiples and submultiples. For example, the metre per second, symbol m/s, and the centimetre per second, symbol cm/s, are derived units of speed in the SI. The kilometre per hour, symbol km/h, is a unit of speed outside the SI but accepted for use with the SI, because the unit hour is accepted for use with the SI. The knot, equal to one nautical mile per hour, is a unit of speed outside the SI, that is used by special interest groups.

The DRAE references carga as something that can be transported on one's shoulders, on one's back, by pack animal, or on any vehicle. The DRAE also indicates it can refer to a variable unit of weight for wood, fruit, grains, and other items. Santamaría also references carga as a variable unit of measurement, which may refer to two hectoliters (a measurement roughly equivalent to two-and-a-quarter dry gallons), two boxfuls, or the quantity that can be transported on the back of a pack animal. It is also used as a measurement for dry goods that is roughly equivalent to the weight of four hundred cocoa beans. Islas concurs, adding that another equivalent measure is that of ninety-six cuartillos (equal to two hectoliters). -

SUBJECT AREA: Electricity[br]b. 24 October 1804 Wittenberg, Germanyd. 23 June 1891 Göttingen, Germany[br]German physicist, the founder of precise measurement of electrical quantities.[br]Weber began scientific experiments at an early age and entered the University of Halle, where he came under the influence of J.S.C.Schweigger, inventor of the galvanometer. Completing his education with a dissertation on the theory of organ pipes and making important contributions to the science of acoustics, he was awarded a lectureship and later an assistant professorship at Halle. Weber was offered the Chair of Physics at Göttingen in 1831 and jointly with Gauss began investigations into the precision measurement of magnetic quantities. In 1841 he invented the electrodynamometer type of electrical measuring instrument. This was a development of the galvanometer in which, instead of a needle, a small coil was suspended within an outer coil. A current flowing through both coils tended to turn the inner coil, the sine of the angle through which the suspending wires were twisted being proportional to the square of the strength of the current. A variation of the electrodynamometer was capable of measuring directly the power in electrical circuits.The introduction by Weber of a system of absolute units for the measurement of electrical quantities was a most important step in electrical science. He had a considerable influence on the British Association committees on electrical standards organized in 1861 to promote a coherent system of electrical units. Weber's ideas also led him to define elementary electric particles, ascribing mass and charge to them. His name was used for a time before 1883 as the unit of electric current, until the name "ampere" was proposed by Helmholtz.
